畢業(yè)季要做哪些事情呢？參加畢業(yè)典禮，來一場畢業(yè)旅游，拍一張班級畢業(yè)照，和舍友吃散伙飯......我們今天就來聊聊跟“畢業(yè)"有關的那些英文吧。

1. 畢業(yè)典禮 ： Commencement/Graduation Ceremony

英式英語里，畢業(yè)典禮一般叫“graduation ceremony”

在美國，畢業(yè)典禮則通常被稱作“commencement ceremony”

例句：

At my commencement, I never imagined that someday I would be standing here giving the final remarks at your commencement.

在我的畢業(yè)典禮上，我從來沒有想過有一天我會站在這里，在你們的畢業(yè)典禮上做最后一次發(fā)言。

2. 畢業(yè)演講： commencement/graduation speech

世界名校大多會邀請各界精英來deliver（發(fā)表）演講。

3. 學位服： academic dress/costume

一般稱為 Cap and Gown，即學位帽和學位袍。

4. 撥穗： Turning of the tassel

Cap上那個穗穗就叫tassel（流蘇） 。

通常是校長或系主任，會為每個degree candidate（學位候選人）turn the tassel（撥穗），象征著 transition from candidate to graduate（學位候選人獲得學位這個轉變）。 正確的撥穗姿勢，是從右到左，所以上臺接受撥穗禮之前，記得把穗穗先撥到右邊。

例句：

但不同以往的是，學位帽沒有流蘇，也不沉重。

5. 畢業(yè)晚會： Graduation Dinner/Party

6. 畢業(yè)照： graduation photo

7. 散伙飯： farewell dinner party

9. 畢業(yè)證/文憑： diploma

10. 畢業(yè)紀念冊： class book

詞義辨析

paper，essay，thesis，dissertation

英式英語里，本科和碩士論文都叫dissertation， 博士論文叫thesis；

而美式完全反過來，本科和碩士論文叫thesis，博士論文叫dissertation；

Paper可以指課程論文，或某個具體研究在會議或者期刊上發(fā)表的論文。如term paper, course paper, research paper。

Essay的含義較廣，既可指幾千字的短篇論文，也可以指散文或者雜文。
